Greenhouse gas emission scenarios, global or regional climate models, projections, bias correction... The concepts associated with climate change are technical and complex. The document "Les mots pour le dire" explains some of them.
As part of the LIFE Eau&Climat project's "Strengthening knowledge transfer and exchanges between researchers and managers" action, a training session on climate change was held for project partners by Jean-Philippe Vidal, hydroclimatologist at INRAE in 2021. The aim was to provide a better understanding of the notions and concepts surrounding climate change.
These training sessions have been summarized in fact sheets by the SMAVD (Amélie Ringeade) to enable other players working on water resource and climate change issues to get to grips with these issues. The fact sheets can be read independently of each other, although the first ones provide essential elements of understanding.
Eight themes are covered, ranging from essential concepts to more complex ones.
These fact sheets, designed by OiEau, are available individually in booklet form :
-
Did you say RCP 8.5? What is a greenhouse gas emission scenario ?
-
GCMs, big machines for simulating future climate, but not only...
-
What was the planet's past climate? Can models reproduce it ?
-
Climate change on a more local scale: more constraints ?
-
How can climate projections be represented ?
-
Testing models, comparing them and producing results
-
At regional level, how are climate projections produced ?
-
What is bias correction ?
These data sheets are also brought together in a summary document.
